Several typhoons visit Philippines each year and Filipinos inside and outside of the country would always want to know if their loved ones area safe or to inform them that they are fine. Knowing the necessity of being informed about the status of a person in a disaster stricken area, Facebook has developed an app that lets you determine the condition of a loved one: whether he is OK or not.
Safety Check helps you assure love ones that you are safe or whether you need help. It is a simple and easy way to say you’re safe and check on others. This tool is available globally on Android, iOS, feature phones and desktop.
Safety Check app—simple and user-friendly—lets you connect to friends and family when it matters most.
How does it work?
When a disaster hits your area, and your location is affected, you will receive a message asking if you’re safe. Your location will be determined through the city you have identified in your profile, the most recent location you visited like a restaurant, and where you’re currently using the internet.
You also have the option to verify whether you are indeed in the disaster area, in case the location known is wrong.
If you are safe, you can choose “I’m Safe,” and after doing so. Your update will be shown in your friends’ News Feed. Then they can mark you as safe.
Also, if your friends or family members are in an area of natural disaster, you will receive a notification if they’re safe or not. Clicking on it will bookmark their status and gets you updated of the condition.
There’s no better feeling than knowing all the people you care about are safe. Facebook believes in this, and this app lets you know that.
